Download of the Day: Google Earth 4 (All Platforms)

Posted on January 10, 2007. Filed under: Google |

Windows/Mac/Linux: Google has just pushed Google Earth 4 out of beta and into the world, improving its already incredible 3D content by adding higher quality 3D terrain and texturing 3D buildings, among several other features.

Off the bat, the first thing you’ll probably notice is an upgrade to the Google Earth interface, which has been simplified and made much more usable. Also, for anyone who’s gotten used to playing with Google Earth’s many available KML overlays, Google Earth 4 makes it easier than ever to actually make and share your own overlays. Finally, for the hardcore Earther, you can sketch your own 3D figures for more detailed annotation using the previously-mentioned path and polygon tools. In all, it’s safe to say it’s a strong update to an already great piece of software (be sure to at least check out the terrain and textured buildings videos at the Google Earth page). Google Earth is freeware, available on all platforms.
